Want to become a pro at online video poker? It really isn’t that hard. Poker is a game based off calculations of the odds, and every player should have at least some mind towards those odds, whether you’re playing video or just normal poker; and it doesn’t make a difference if you’re playing online or off.
Here are a few tips to help get you into the winning world of online video poker and score some extra cash for yourself.
- Be patient and take your time. Video cards are not impatient as to your actions and will let you take your time in making decisions. Don’t try and rush through a game: this is one of the greatest advantages you have over playing at a poker table, so take advantage of it and give yourself the luxury of waiting
- Learn the layout of the machine before you start playing. Be sure, especially, to distinguish between the ‘hold’ and ‘discard’ buttons. Some machines will have one, and some will have the other. Online programs work the same way. Know which it is on your machine before you accidentally toss away cards you wanted to keep
- Play the maximum coin allowable (or just straight cash if you’re playing online). Make the maximum allowable bets whenever you can. If you can’t afford the maximum bet then move to a lower machine where you can
- And, for that matter, start at the lowest denomination machine. You need time to get used to drawing. As you master it (always going with the maximum bet, mind you) move up to higher-paying machines where you can apply the same poker strategies
- Don’t keep an extra card, even if you think it’ll help you in the long run. Known as ‘kickers’, gamblers often keep them to make their hands stronger. But online video poker doesn’t operate the same as normal poker, so feel free to take the video advantage and chance getting a better hand by tossing out that ace that doesn’t pair with anything else
